Recipe: French onion soup tres simple Ahh,
the French. Only a few years ago, the French were persons non grata over
here. But I think all has been forgiven. And what better way to forgive
and forget than to make your beloved a simple, bistro-ish Valentine's Day meal:
French onion soup. Ingredients - 2 large yellow onions
- 2
tblspns Olive oil
- 3 cans of condensed beef broth (3 cans of water or according
to what it says on the can)
- Salt and pepper
- Baguette cut into
1" thick slices
- Grated Gruyere cheese
Preparation - Slice
2 large, yellow onions, and sauté with olive oil. Saute until onions are
lightly browned.
- Add condensed broth and water to pan and season with
salt and pepper.
- Stir until bubbling.
- Meanwhile, toast your baguette
slices.
- Pour soup into bowls, dunk one or two slices of toasted baguette
slices, and sprinkle generously with the gruyere cheese.
- Eat with nice,
simple salad and vinaigrette dressing. Very tasty!
Not a bad
Valentine's Day present to your beloved. Just don't forget to brush your teeth
before you start smooching! Fauzia Arain Chicago Tribune, Smart
