Recipe: French onion soup tres simple

Ahh, the French. Only a few years ago, the French were persons non grata over here. But I think all has been forgiven.

And what better way to forgive and forget than to make your beloved a simple, bistro-ish Valentine's Day meal: French onion soup.

Ingredients

  • 2 large yellow onions
  • 2 tblspns Olive oil
  • 3 cans of condensed beef broth (3 cans of water or according to what it says on the can)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Baguette cut into 1" thick slices
  • Grated Gruyere cheese

Preparation

  1. Slice 2 large, yellow onions, and sauté with olive oil. Saute until onions are lightly browned.
  2. Add condensed broth and water to pan and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Stir until bubbling.
  4. Meanwhile, toast your baguette slices.
  5. Pour soup into bowls, dunk one or two slices of toasted baguette slices, and sprinkle generously with the gruyere cheese.
  6. Eat with nice, simple salad and vinaigrette dressing. Very tasty!

Not a bad Valentine's Day present to your beloved. Just don't forget to brush your teeth before you start smooching!
